Based on the principle of joint scientific cooperation between Iraqi universities, Professor Hanan Abdul-Ridha Akkar, a lecturer at the College of Electrical Engineering, participated in the discussion committee for a doctoral thesis entitled “Using Artificial Intelligence to Diagnose and Develop a Treatment Plan for Orthodontic Cases Using 3D Images.” The thesis was presented by doctoral student Hussam Majid Hamid at the University of Baghdad, College of Dentistry. The lecturer explained that the study presented by the student aims to integrate artificial intelligence models with 3D imaging technologies to assist in orthodontic diagnosis and treatment. This involves analyzing cephalometric measurements, artificial intelligence detection of cephalometric points in real 3D x-ray models, and integrating the outputs of 3D imaging technologies from cone beam computed tomography (CT) and facial scanning to obtain a 3D model for examination and treatment planning. She added, “The student’s study was well received by the examination committee, which decided to accept the thesis and award the student a doctorate with a grade of very good, taking into account the comments submitted by the committee members. The Deanship of the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad also presented the lecturer with a letter of thanks and appreciation in recognition of her scholarly efforts and active participation on the examination committee.
