Electrical Engineering Department Designs Iraq’s First Satellite Testing Platform
In a groundbreaking initiative, students from the Department of Electrical Engineering, in collaboration with the Space and Communications Authority, successfully designed and manufactured Iraq’s first platform for testing small satellite systems. The platform, developed as a graduation project, utilizes the principle of electromagnetic torque to simulate a geomagnetic environment similar to that experienced by satellites in Earth’s orbit.
The device can replicate the magnetic field at any point within a 1,000 km range above Earth’s surface. This innovative project is expected to open new research opportunities and establish a foundation for aerospace engineering and satellite technology in Iraq. While initial results confirm its success, ongoing upgrades aim to align the project with global standards. The initiative represents a significant leap for Iraqi universities and marks a pivotal step in introducing aerospace engineering studies in the country.
