Electrical Engineering Graduate Wins National Excellence Award

Shatha Hani Jassim, a graduate from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Technology, secured first place across Iraqi universities in the “Outstanding Graduation Project Award.” Her project, supervised by Dr. Sabah Abdul Hassan Katafa, focused on designing a smart building management system using IoT technology.

The project offered cost-effective solutions for energy management, fire and gas alerts, and remote control of household devices via WiFi or 3G. The system featured a touch-screen interface and mobile applications for seamless operation.

Shatha received a commendation from Iraq’s Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Nabeel Kazem Abdul Sahib, during the 2020 Iraqi Science Day celebration. The award underscores the innovative contributions of Iraqi researchers to global challenges.
