Master’s Degree Awarded in Optimal Energy Management for Electric Vehicles
On Thursday, March 23, 2017, Mr. Ali Fawaid Fadhel was awarded a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a grade of Excellent. His thesis, titled “Optimal Energy Management for Electric Vehicles with Fuel Cells, Batteries, and Supercapacitors,” was presented at the Electrical Engineering Department.
The examining committee comprised:
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdulrahim Dhiab Hamoud – Chair
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abbas Hussein Issa – Member
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Rasheed Al-Rikabi – Member
- Asst. Prof. Dr. Oday Ali Ahmed – Supervisor
The research introduced an optimal energy management system for hybrid electric vehicles powered by fuel cells. By integrating batteries and supercapacitors, it balanced power distribution across the sources and load, considering their unique electrical properties. Three control systems—Machine Controller, Fuzzy Logic, and Neural Networks—were tested and compared in terms of fuel consumption, efficiency, and charge states. A two-loop controller was also designed for optimal voltage regulation.
