The Electrical Engineering Department holds an awareness workshop

Under the patronage of the Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Jabbar Khalaf Muhammad, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit in the department held an awareness workshop on suicide, its causes, prevention methods, and its effects on Iraqi society. The workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Baidaa Hashim Jameel from the Center for Psychological Research at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Euphrates Hall. The workshop was attended by the Assistant Head of the Department for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Kanaan Ali Jalal, heads of academic departments, and faculty and students of the department.
The workshop included an introduction to the topic of suicide in general, including its causes, prevention methods, and its impact on Iraqi society. It also highlighted how to take the necessary measures to reduce this phenomenon in Iraqi society. The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at reducing the spread of this phenomenon, including:
Launching therapeutic programs to address psychological and personality disorders; Activating the role of the media; Disseminating a culture of hope, optimism, and motivation; Avoiding the dissemination of suicidal thoughts; and Cooperating with religious institutions to promote a culture of acceptance of others, avoiding social stigma, and prohibiting suicide.
The floor was then opened for discussion, questions, interventions, and suggestions, which enriched the workshop’s content. At the conclusion of the workshop, certificates of appreciation were distributed to the workshop organizers in appreciation of their efforts in making it a success.
