Electrical Engineering Department Awards Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering
The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Technology awarded a Ph.D. degree to Ali Nouri Karim for his thesis titled:
“Enhancing the Performance of Optical Communication Systems Using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) Based on FPGA.”
The dissertation defense was held on Thursday, September 26, 2019, in Dijla Hall. The committee consisted of:
- Prof. Dr. Raad Hamdan Zahir (Chair)
- Prof. Dr. Hadi Tarsh Zabon
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ghanem Wadi
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Salah Al-Din Adnan Taha
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Alaa Hussein Ali
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Sinan Majid Abdul Sattar (Advisor)
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdul Redha Hussein (Advisor).
The research introduced a novel Modified Clipping Technique (MCT) to reduce Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) in IM/DD-OOFDM systems. The method is based on A and µ laws, introducing a new parameter to maintain energy levels between input and output signals, offering efficient PAPR reduction with minimal computational complexity.
