Master’s Degree for Research on Energy Management Strategies for Microgrids
The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Technology granted a Master’s degree to Mr. Mustafa Riyadh Nasser for his thesis:
“Power Management Strategies for a Microgrid.”
The defense took place on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at 9:00 AM in the Dijla Hall. The examination committee included:
- Dr. Mahdi Farhan Buniya (Chair)
- Dr. Uday Ali Ahmed (Member)
- Dr. Mazin Mustafa Mehdi (Member)
- Dr. Inam Ibrahim Ali (Supervisor and Member)
- Dr. Mohammed Hisham Abdul Hir (Supervisor and Member)
The study involved developing a 33-node Microgrid system within Al-Diwaniyah’s distribution network. It focused on two main objectives: optimal placement of distributed generators (DGs) for both grid-connected and islanded modes, and efficient energy management through economic dispatch.
The researcher demonstrated that microgrids can improve distribution network reliability, reduce transmission line stress, and support environmental sustainability by integrating renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics and wind turbines.
