Master’s Thesis Defense: AI Techniques for Energy Management in Lighting
On Thursday, September 19, 2019, at 9:00 AM, Sameh Jassim Mohammed defended his master’s thesis titled:
“Artificial Intelligence Techniques for Lighting Energy Management Using Programmable Gates.”
The defense took place in Dijla Hall, with the following committee members:
- Prof. Dr. Hadi Tarsh Zabon (Chair)
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Nuzhat Saeed Abdul Razzaq
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Zaki Abdullah
- Prof. Dr. Hanan Abdul Redha Akar (Supervisor).
The research proposed various energy-saving techniques for LED systems using sensors like LDRs and PIRs. Data from these sensors was processed by artificial neural networks (ANN) implemented on Spartan 6 FPGAs, optimizing LED dimming via PWM signals. The thesis was approved with minor revisions, and the student received a “Pass” grade.
