Master’s Thesis Defense on Single-Phase Micro-Inverter Design for Home Applications

On Thursday, December 12, 2019, at 9:00 AM, the Electrical Engineering Department hosted the defense of graduate student Firas Fadel Saleh for his master’s thesis titled “Design and Implementation of a Single-Phase Micro-Inverter for Home Applications.”

The thesis committee included:

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dhari Yousif Mahmoud (Chair)
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Jafar Mehdi (Member)
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Jassem Farhoud Hussein (Member)
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Uday Ali Ahmed (Supervisor and Member)

The research addressed the problem of leakage inductance caused by mutual induction between the three windings and leakage currents from transformer-less micro-inverters. The study proposed a design that reduced instantaneous voltage stress on components and doubled voltage output efficiency. The thesis was accepted with minor revisions, awarding the student a “Pass” grade.
