Master’s Thesis Defense on Smart Algorithms for Disease Diagnosis

On Thursday, November 2, 2017, a Master’s thesis defense was held in Dajla Hall for Tabrir Tariq Hassan’s research titled “Implementation of a Smart Algorithm for Disease Diagnosis Using Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs).”

The defense committee included:

  • Dr. Mohammed Hamza Mahmoud (Chair)
  • Dr. Saad Safah Hassan (Member)
  • Dr. Saad Mutasher Abbas (Member)
  • Dr. Manal Hammadi Jassim (Advisor and Member)
  • Dr. Ivan Abdul Zahra Hashem (Advisor and Member)

The research focused on developing a diagnostic system for heart diseases, capable of classifying normal and abnormal conditions and identifying five specific conditions with high accuracy. Two databases were utilized: an online heart disease diagnostic database and a real dataset from Baghdad’s Ibn Al-Bitar Cardiology Hospital.

The thesis was accepted with minor revisions, and the student earned a Master’s degree with distinction.
