Master’s Thesis Defense: Reducing Power Losses in Iraqi Distribution Networks
Omar Yaseen Saeed presented his master’s thesis on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at 9:00 AM in the Dijla Hall. His thesis, Reducing Electrical Power Losses in the Iraqi Distribution Network, proposed solutions for optimizing power distribution.
The examination panel consisted of:
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Afanin Anwar Abboud (Chairperson)
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mahdi Farhan Buniya (Member)
- Dr. Thamer Mohammed Abdulwahab (Member)
- Dr. Inaam Ibrahim Ali (Supervisor and Member)
Saeed utilized CYMDIST software to implement a reconfiguration algorithm and optimized capacitor placement using Genetic Algorithms (GA) in MATLAB. The approach reduced power losses and maintained voltage stability. The thesis was approved with minor corrections, earning the student a “Very Good” grade.
