Master’s Thesis Explores Energy Efficiency in Smart Buildings

A Master’s degree was awarded to student Bareq Musab Jalal by the Electrical Engineering Department for his thesis titled “Power Consumption Reduction in a Smart Building”.

The research proposed a smart control system for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) using Variable Refrigerant Flow technology, integrated with lighting systems. Sensors for occupancy and daylight were utilized to optimize energy usage, significantly reducing electricity consumption.

The defense committee included Asst. Prof. Dr. Suad Ibrahim Shahl as chairperson, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Amer Mujbil Ali, Dr. Aws Habib Mohammed, and Dr. Rasheed Hameed Mutar as supervisor.
