Master’s thesis in the Department of Electrical Engineering discusses the effect of the geometric design of transmission line insulators on the intensity of surface flicker
Discussed a master’s thesis in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Technological University
(GEOMETRICAL PROFILE EFFECT OF OVERHEAD TRANSMISSION LINE INSULATORS ON SURFACE FLASHOVER STRENGTH)
The master’s thesis presented by student Amr Emad Osman Hassan included the selection of the geometric design of a 33 kV composite insulator that has better performance under rain pollution. Twelve designs were proposed and studied under three conditions, drought, heavy and light rain, resulting in thirty-six cases. The field efficiency factor, which gives the perspective of the electric field distribution, was calculated after modeling and simulating the cases using COMSOL Multiphysics® version 5.5. The different designs were compared in terms of the reduction in field efficiency factor under rain pollution conditions. The results showed that the inclined alternating sheds profile has better performance under rain conditions compared to the other designs.
The discussion committee consisted of experienced professor Dr. Essam Mahmoud Abdelbagi as chair, Prof. Dr. Thamer Mohamed Abdelwahab, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mahmoud Mohamed as members, and Prof. Dr. Os Habib Mohamed as supervisor and member.
