Ph.D. Defense: Optical-Wireless Hybrid System for Detection and Communication

Doctoral candidate Hassan Mahmoud Azawi successfully defended his dissertation, Design and Implementation of a Hybrid Optical-Wireless System for Detection and Communication, on Thursday, June 20, 2019, in Dijlah Hall.

The committee included Dr. Mahmoud Farhan Maslah (Chair), Dr. Natiq Abdullah Ali, Dr. Atheer Alaa Sabri, Dr. Sinan Majid Abdul-Sattar, Dr. Ivan Abdul-Zahra Hashim, Dr. Alaa Hussein Ali (Supervisor), and Dr. Shehab Kazem Ahmed (Supervisor).

The research developed an advanced hybrid underwater optical communication system using Orthogonal Optical Frequency Division Multiplexing (OOFDM) and coherent detection techniques to enhance data transmission under challenging underwater conditions. The dissertation was accepted, and the candidate received his Ph.D. with a “Pass” grade.
