Ph.D. Student Receives Distinction in Electrical Engineering

On Thursday, October 4, 2018, Ph.D. candidate Fares Ali Jassim defended his dissertation titled “Intelligent Biosensor System Design Based on FPGA” at the Electrical Engineering Department, University of Technology.

The examining committee comprised:

  1. Prof. Mohammed Farhan Musleh – Chair
  2. Assoc. Prof. Nazhat Saeed Abdul Razaq – Member
  3. Assoc. Prof. Hadi Tarish Ziboun – Member
  4. Assoc. Prof. Hassan Fahd Khazal – Member
  5. Assoc. Prof. Abbas Hussein Issa – Member
  6. Prof. Hanan Abdul Raza Akar – Member and Supervisor

The research proposed intelligent techniques to analyze EEG signals for epilepsy diagnosis. Methods included traditional neural networks trained via evolutionary algorithms and advanced models like RBFNN, TDNN, and DDNN. Data was sourced from the Epilepsy Department at the University of Bonn, Germany.

The dissertation was accepted with distinction, earning the candidate a Ph.D. with honors.
