PhD Research Focuses on Enhancing Ground Penetrating Radar Detection Using Intelligent Algorithms
The Department of Electrical Engineering awarded a PhD to Hussein Mumtaz Hussein for his dissertation titled “Enhancement of the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Detector Based on Intelligent Algorithms.”
The research explores advanced non-destructive testing techniques for geophysical surveys to gather data about buried underground objects. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a crucial tool in this domain, widely used for detecting subsurface materials. The dissertation developed intelligent algorithms to enhance the interpretation of electromagnetic waves sent and received by GPR, allowing for more accurate estimations of material type and buried object depth. The examination committee included Professors Hanan Abdul Ridha Akar (Chair), Dhafir Rafie Zghair, Hudhail Nasrat Abdullah, Haider Jabbar Abdul Nassar, Samir Abdul Khalek Aziz, Thamer Rasheed Saeed, and Supervisor Jafar Wadi Abdul Sada.
