Seminar on Facial Recognition Classification Methods
On December 25, 2017, the Department of Electrical Engineering hosted a seminar titled “Various Classification Methods in Facial Recognition,” presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Iyad Ibrahim Abbas, Assist. Prof. Dr. Khalida Shaaban Rajab, and Mr. Mohammed Ihsan.
The discussion revolved around three classification methods: Euclidean Distance, Squared Euclidean Distance, and Mahalanobis Distance. Using ORL facial databases and Principal Component Analysis, the researchers achieved a 100% recognition rate with Squared Euclidean Distance, followed by 98% with Euclidean Distance and 95% with Mahalanobis Distance.
