🌟Success Story: From Electrical Engineering Classrooms to Iraq’s Leadership

Dr. Haider Jawad Kadhim Al-Abadi exemplifies how knowledge and education can serve as the foundation for national leadership. Born in Baghdad in 1952, Al-Abadi graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Technology in Baghdad in 1975. His academic excellence earned him a position as a teaching assistant in the same department after graduation.

Pursuing higher education, Al-Abadi moved to the United Kingdom, where he obtained a master’s degree in 1977, followed by a Ph.D. in electronic and electrical engineering from the University of Manchester in 1980.

During his time in Britain, Al-Abadi worked in the field of rapid transit technology, contributing to advanced research projects, including the development of innovative urban transportation systems. He also led a high-tech design and development firm in London and registered a patent related to rapid transit systems utilizing modern technology.

After the fall of the previous regime in Iraq in 2003, Al-Abadi returned to his homeland, where he assumed the role of Minister of Communications in the transitional government, overseeing the reconstruction of the country’s telecommunications infrastructure. Subsequently, he was elected as a member of the Council of Representatives, chairing the Committees on Economy and Investment, and Finance. In 2014, he was appointed Prime Minister, leading the nation through a critical period and successfully liberating Iraqi territories from the terrorist organization ISIS.

Dr. Haider Al-Abadi’s journey underscores how education and knowledge can be the cornerstone in cultivating leaders and driving transformative change. The Department of Electrical Engineering takes pride in counting such an influential and accomplished individual among its alumni.
