Doctoral Dissertation Defense
On Thursday, February 15, 2018, Ph.D. candidate Mustafa Fawzi Mohammed defended his dissertation titled:
“Design and Implementation of a High-Efficiency, Low-Harmonic DC-to-AC Converter”
The defense was held at 9:00 AM in Dijla Hall within the department.
The examination committee included:
- Prof. Dr. Essam Mohammed Abdul Baqi – Chair
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Dhari Youssef Mahmoud – Member
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Turki Khyoush Hassan – Member
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Jamal Abdul Kareem Mohammed – Member
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Thamer Mohammed Abdul Wahhab – Member
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali Hussein Ahmed – Supervisor and Member
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahim Thiab Hamoud – Supervisor and Member
The research focused on designing a DC-to-AC voltage converter with high efficiency and minimal harmonics. The converter consisted of two main sections: a DC voltage booster and an inverter. Practical demonstrations showcased how voltage stress on switches was minimized while maintaining linear voltage control. After the discussion, the dissertation was accepted, and the candidate was awarded a Ph.D. with a “Pass” grade.
