Faculty Member Publishes Research in a Prestigious Journal in Collaboration with UPM Malaysia

Dr. Saad Muttashar Abbas, an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Technology, published a research paper titled “Health Care Monitoring and Treatment for Coronary Artery Diseases: Challenges and Issues” in the renowned journal Sensors by MDPI.

The journal is recognized for its high impact factor of 3.275 and is classified as Q1 under Clarivate Analytics. The paper reviews coronary artery stents used to prevent blockages, highlighting that 10%-15% of stents fail to remain open, requiring 40% of patients to undergo repeated procedures within a year. The study analyzed existing stent monitoring techniques and practical treatments for reducing restenosis, proposed improvements, and discussed advancements in stent implantation technology. Recommendations for further interdisciplinary applications were also presented.
