Master’s Defense: Controlling Robotic Arms Using EMG Signals

On May 2, 2017, Vian Ihsan Baqir successfully defended her master’s thesis, “Controlling a Robotic Arm Using Electromyography (EMG) Signals and a Microcontroller”, at the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Her research focused on controlling robotic arms using EMG signals, which represent the electrical activation of muscles detected from the skin. This technology has applications in prosthetics and remote operation in hazardous environments. The committee, chaired by Dr. Thamer Rasheed Saeed, granted the degree with minor amendments and awarded a “Very Good” grade.
