Master’s Student Earns Distinction in Electrical Engineering
On Thursday, March 9, 2017, the Electrical Engineering Department held a Master’s thesis defense for Salah Mahdi Obeid. The session, conducted in the Dijla Hall at 9:00 a.m., centered on his thesis titled “Design of Variable Beamforming Antenna for Wideband and Multiband Communication Applications.”
The defense committee comprised:
- Dr. Raad Sami Fayyad (Chair)
- Dr. Ashwaq Qassim Hamid (Member)
- Dr. Ali Jabbar Salim (Member)
- Dr. Haidar Malik Abdulhadi (Supervisor and Member)
The research presented six innovative antenna designs with variable beamforming capabilities for wideband applications. Highlights included:
- Elliptical-shaped antennas with notch band control, operating from 2.5 to 12 GHz and achieving gains up to 4.84 dBi.
- Pi-slot antennas offering multiband functionality with gains of 3.2 dBi.
- Various E-shaped and elliptical antennas delivering gains up to 6.6 dBi.
The committee accepted the thesis, granting Salah Mahdi Obeid a Master’s degree with distinction.
