Master’s Thesis Defense: Mazhar Nizar Abdul Mahdi
On Thursday, January 10, 2019, in the Dijla Hall, Mazhar Nizar Abdul Mahdi defended his master’s thesis titled Optimal Load Shedding for the Iraqi Power System Based on Frequency and Voltage Sensitivities. The defense began at 9:00 AM.
The committee was chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Rashid Hamid Matar, with Asst. Prof. Dr. Inam Ibrahim Ali, Dr. Raghad Ali Majid, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Afanine Anwar Aboud (Supervisor and Member) as members.
The research proposed an algorithm for optimal load shedding based on frequency and voltage sensitivities. It involved estimating the total load to be shed based on the frequency rate of change and determining the load shedding for each bus based on its voltage sensitivity. After discussing the methodology and results, the thesis was accepted with minor revisions, and the candidate was awarded a “Satisfactory” grade.
