Master’s Thesis Discussion on Photovoltaic System Modeling

On Thursday, February 1, 2018, graduate student Ashraf Youssef Mohammed defended his Master’s thesis titled “Modeling and Simulation of a 1 MW Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System.”

The discussion panel included:

  • Dr. Dhari Youssef Mahmoud (Chair)
  • Dr. Firas Mohammed Tuaima (Member)
  • Dr. Kanaan Ali Jalal (Member)
  • Dr. Afaneen Anwar Aboud (Member)
  • Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Saleh (Supervisor).

The study proposed a 1 MW grid-connected photovoltaic system for Karbala. The research was divided into two parts: the first focused on solar radiation calculations, system design, loss estimation, performance analysis, and economic assessment. The second examined the system’s productivity and performance under microgrid conditions versus its connection to Karbala’s power grid.

The thesis was accepted with minor revisions, and the student earned a “Very Good” rating.
