Ph.D. Student Achieves ‘Very Good’ in Electrical Engineering
On Thursday, October 18, 2018, Ph.D. candidate Rana Ali Abtan defended her dissertation titled “Detection and Diagnosis of Multiple Faults Under Variable Conditions in the Iraqi Power Grid” at the Electrical Engineering Department, University of Technology.
The examining committee consisted of:
- Prof. Issam Mahmoud Abdul Baqi – Chair
- Assoc. Prof. Rashid Hameed Matar – Member
- Assoc. Prof. Dhari Yousif Mahmoud – Member
- Assoc. Prof. Jameel Kadhem Abdul – Member
- Assoc. Prof. Ali Hussein Noaman – Member
- Assoc. Prof. Afanin Anwar Aboud – Member and Supervisor
The study focused on identifying and diagnosing multiple faults in power networks, an ongoing challenge in the field. These faults often occur simultaneously in different locations due to environmental factors, aging infrastructure, inadequate maintenance, or sabotage. Such issues affect service continuity and the reliability of the power grid.
The dissertation was accepted, and the candidate was awarded a Ph.D. with a “Very Good” grade.
